This biome is the Freshwater biome. This biome means the water is fresh. Some examples are; ponds, lakes, streams, rivers, etc. If the water is murky, then it has lots of nutrients. If the water is clear, then it has lots of oxygen. Some of the animals in this biome would be fish, alligators, hippos, turtles, and frogs. Some of the plants are algae, phytoplankton, and pond lilies. Some of the biotic factors are the animals, plant, algae, and murk (the green mold, looking stuff on the top of a pond). Some of the abiotic things in the freshwater biome is the oxygen (in the water), the air (on top of the water), and the water. The environmental problem for this biome is that people throw away trash into the lakes and ponds, and it makes them look bad and the animal's and plant's population go way down. They may become extinct. The way we can solve this problem is to put trash cans on the docks or land so when people need to throw something away, they can. If it happens on accident, then they need to tie their trash down to whatever it is on so nothing flies out. In the food web for this biome (left), the producers are plants and phytoplankton. The consumers are zooplankton. The secondary consumers are; small nymphs, fish, freshwater shrimp, worms, and terrestrial insects. The tertiary consumers are; crawfish, large nymphs, small true minnows, and salmon. Examples of the decomposers are; smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout, and suckers. The sun and it's energy started it all.
